Now here is my detailed good friend chicken review. So you may be familiar with Kentucky, Nashville, Korean and many more worldly versions of fried chicken. But there’s one I have not tried until recently and yes, you guessed it, Taiwanese fried chicken.
I bumped into this place completely by accident in Chinatown. So when I saw fried chicken and bubble tea advertised, I thought, “Now that’s the perfect combo!”. Because everyone loves fried chicken and bubble tea right?
This place is also perfect for a delicious snack to bind you over before and after meals. Y’know, when you’re peckish but are torn between saving space for dinner and curbing some cravings. Or that “There always room for desert (or chicken in this case!)” mood.
There are many little cheap and cheerful finds in Chinatown. So if you’re interested in those type of spots, my good friend chicken review will not fail to disappoint…
Good Friend Chicken Decor & Menu
This place is very simple, cheap and cheerful. But unfortunately there are only a few seats inside as it is more of a takeout joint. Plus, it has the tendency to become quite packed! Especially during rush hour.
I’ve visited here on a few occasions and tried a few of the items and drinks. But trust me, you really need to try everything on this menu. Because there’s a range of items such as fried squid, prawns, different chicken cuts and even crispy fried chicken skin and the famous volcanic cheesy chicken.
Another thing I may add is that I really think that there’s an extensive menu of unique items considering it’s just a fast food/takeaway spot.
Plus, there’s also a large variety of different types of bubble tea which will satisfy all bubble tea lovers.
Good Friend Chicken Food & Drink Items!
Good Friend Chicken Flavours
This is what really makes the chicken pop! And there’s a wide range of flavours to choose from. For instance, you’ll see a wide range of seasonings (as pictured above) at the counter and you’ll be asked to choose one for your order.
But from my experience, I highly recommend the ones I chose which are curry and plum (as shown in the photos!). Also, both flavours are very fragrant and unique, so if you’re into the sweet and salty combo, the plum seasoning will be perfect for you. But if I had to choose between the two, I’ll choose the plum seasoning (as pictured on the crispy chicken breast slices).
A Review of… The Chicken Itself!
Both of these options of crispy chicken breast and popcorn chicken were equally as good, especially with the flavouring added in this mix which makes this chicken insanely addictive.
Both types of chicken are very succulent considering they’re made with chicken breast. However, if you’re after huge portions, I recommend going to the chicken breast as the portions are massive! Also, the coating is very crispy and different than a lot of chicken places out there. Also, I believe that it’s because Taiwanese chicken coating is used with sweet potato starch which gives it that unique flavour.
Finally, if you’re interested in trying both, I recommend opting for the “super romantic” promo deal as you can get both for £10. I must also add that there’s a minimum £10 charge for card purchases.
Strawberry Bubble Tea
You really can’t go wrong with this bubble tea as it’s very refreshing and has the perfect, traditional chewy tapioca balls. Plus, there’s also a wide range of toppings and flavours to choose from. So your order won’t be complete without one of these bad boys!

Would I Recommend?
I would definitely recommend good friend chicken. Because not only is it good value for money, but one of the best types of fried chicken out there. So if you’re a fried chicken fan, this is definitely a place you need to tick off!
Plus, this place really is a little joy amongst chinatown and I’d also recommend ordering extra chicken to take home as it makes such a comforting treat.
However, if you’re a sitting down type of person and are not that much into street food or “food-on-foot”, the lack of seating options may be a small annoyance.
Finally, thanks for reading this quick review and I apologise for the absence. Also, I hope that you enjoyed this quick read and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
